This journal is not friends-only. Feel free to comment or whatever. I am totally cool with dissenting opinions. Anonymous screening is only on to prevent trolling and pretty much anything gets descreened once I'm at a computer. If you want to add this journal to f-list, go ahead. You don't have to ask permission for that. If you want me to friend back, please ask in a comment because I don't really pay attention to changes in the profile page.

Hey guys, entertain me while I back up my laptop in preparation for the new computer coming in next month (and in preparation just in case my laptop dies for good)!

(Meme stolen from [info]mippa)
Give me a character and I will give you my:
• OTP for them.
• Runner-up pairing.
• Honorable mention(s).
• Crack pairing(s).
• Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't.

Oh, and I bought a Japan highway/political/relief map for SN reference. I am kinda baffled that it's more useful than the scant few ArcGIS-compatible files I could find of Japan. There are some inaccuracies, but it's better than the regional-based webtrawling I've been doing.

For the record: my laptop keeps automatically shutting down. It started when I got back. All fanworks on hold until the new computer comes in.

Oh goddammit, only one icon slot left. Gotta get rid of a few icons.

Anyway. Inflicted Babylon 5 season 1 on Dad during break. He seems to like it well enough. I wish I could have gone with season 2 instead, but season 1 has so much set-up that going into season 2 blindly can be confusing.

I gave True Blood a try and didn't like it. I'm kinda sick of the vampire-fascinated-with-boring-human-woman trope. What makes it worse is that I LIKE telepaths (see: Babylon 5), but Sookie is just not that interesting. Also, older original version of The Prisoner is still better than the new version.

Going back to the apartment on Saturday. I'm going to miss central heating.

Unfortunately, due to inflicting B5 on Dad and helping out around the house and taking advantage of deluxe package cable tv, I haven't been very productive. On the plus side, family bonding and long geeky science talks with someone who knows what he's talking about outweigh fandom. Plus, I don't really have a place to work. The chairs in the dining room are too uncomfortable and I'm not keen on lugging my heavy Toshiba laptop to the sofa and trying to balance it on my knees.

Also, I am getting a new computer. Now I just have to decide on a name for it. Part of me wants to name it Smrgol, but seeing how he died and all, it's probably not a good idea. Now taking badass dragon name suggestions.

ETA: Thought I'd just record this for posterity: A few days ago, Dad asked if this show's first run was on the SciFi channel, then recanted and said that no, nevermind, it was too good for Siffy SyFy. Which, sadly, is true. SyFy only ran reruns sporadically. And I feel very silly typing out "SyFy."

Oh hey, new icon. I apparently need this for my FFV collection: Gilgamesh figure!

When I was looking through old tags, I noticed I didn't link to newer drabbles. So, here:
---- Powers at Play (Ryo/Millenniumon, slash, written for [info]kveran)
---- Dancing Stars, future part (Osamu, Motomiya OC. Part of a series)
---- Artist for Hire, pt 3 (Ryo and Ruki. Part of a series)
---- Love Is (Mimi, stand-alone, implied bisexuality, passing mention of JouKou)

Yeah, I know, most of them are crap.

Anyway, here, have a meme stolen from [info]mippa while I wait for supper to finish. meme time )

I'm at my parents' for the holidays. Unfortunately, I can't get my laptop's network adapter card (a Belkin card) to connect to the wireless network (Netgear) here. Which, of course, means that I can't go dragon-hunting, do much work that requires the internet, or talk with anyone over AIM unless they were very patient with my thumbtyping.

So, sorry.

Everyone should read this: Writing Gay Characters.

And now, back to scrubbing my brain.

ETA: I kinda want to write Centauri AU fic where Vir becomes a hero faster, Londo is freed from the Drakh, and Londo, Timov, and Senna can be one big, happy, snarky family. But, in the end, I won't write it in full because it's Babylon 5 and deserves much better than my self-gratification.

To do, not work-related:

- Finish SN
- Fix up references for B3
- Draw David Sheridan usurping Prince Vintari's time and energy to play with toy Starfuries. I normally hate kid characters, but the idea of the Sheridans adopting a big bad Centauri prince who may or may not destroy Earth in the distant future amuses me.
- Due to Vir's epic badass activities in the Legions of Fire books, the following icon must be made with Vir's face and the text: "Bad enough dude to rescue the president."
- See if I can't make a sketch of Senna based on Refa's features.
- Go through the B5 novels for details to retain and maybe post on LJ and/or the B5 comm.
- Comic version of Vir being presented with a mighty, all-powerful rock by the technomages.
- Oh Londo. I wish I could do something that was worthy of such a wonderfully complex character.
- The books make me love Timov even more. I didn't know that was possible.

I wish I was worthy enough to do justice to B5 with fan-works. Instead I just look like an amateur piddling around. This was never a problem with Digimon fandom.

ETA: Links for me to read later: Plagues in your Postapocalypse. It's stuff I'm already well-aware of (and SN does take the disease factor into account), but I want to read the comments when I have more time. Another thing people should keep in mind? Parasites.
Also: Why We Immunize.

Back from mini-vacation. Need to return Farscape boxed set to Amazon, as it does not have captions (boo) and there's a giant crack on the last disc of season 2. I took screencaps from the very pretty Babylon 5: Lost Tales dvd and will probably be using them as reference fodder for B3. Actually got dad to sit through In The Beginning and a couple of season 1 B5 eps. I don't think I turned him over to the, er, light yet, but hopefully later eps will help come Christmas break.

My laptop was packed away for the extent of my vacation, so I have nothing to show for the time spent away. Sorry. At this point? Screw NaNo. RL was more important.

Sorry I haven't been around much. I left the house very early yesterday to stay with my parents and help out from then until Sunday. Got new glasses hours after my arrival at their place.

On the trip, I read The Long Night of Centauri Prime. Despite some inconsistencies with the tv show, it's surprisingly decent for a glorified fanfic tie-in novel. I could hear the canon characters clearly in my head and thought they were believably written, and the original-to-novel characters weren't too annoying. Senna is a delight and I'd like to see more of her. Durla I don't really care for, but he's set up to be a Morden-type, so it's not unexpected. Also, the novel has Timov, which alone makes it better than the Psi-Corps trilogy.

Also, Timov. Did I mention I love Timov? I hear the rest of the Centauri novels have her in them, which I very much look forward to. Hooray Timov!

Stealing a meme from [info]meimi, who is a wonderful writer and I love her work very much:

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request a drabble of ANY pairing/character of their choosing (of ANY fandom) from me (with a prompt, if it pleases you to give me one). In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level.

(Please let it be of any fandom I actually know.)

Digimon stuff. Anyone not interested is free to move on.

As today was a federal holiday and I had the day off, I thought I'd pull the Tamers DVDs out of their box and head on over to the Digimon rewatch comm. Unfortunately, going back through previous entries reminded me of why I don't get on with the fandom. And, just saying, jokes about someone raping a character you hate is never funny.

So, I spent the past few hours doodling: Yin-Yang. It's a crappy sketch and the anatomy is all wrong, so I'll probably fix it when I get the new computer. I've been debating sharing it on the Digimon comm, but as it involves characters people hate, I may as well abstain.

Another thing: Moon-Millenniumon has apparently been trying to appear more human in his latest incarnation. His torso wasn't nearly so, er, manly in his WS game incarnation. I was trying to sketch with that but... I fail as an artist.

So, yeah, no NaNo writing for a while. Combination of rl stressors. I also fail as a writer.

ETA: Re: sketch - I think I'll move Mille's digicore to between his arms to make it more noticeable.

So, in a fit of madness no doubt attributed to the knock I took on my head (and oh, man, the bruise is even uglier today!), I thought I'd resume Salva Nos for NaNoWriMo.*

I am driving myself mad, surely.

* This won't mean I'll finish it at the end of this year's NaNoWriMo. Given that SN is at 104,764 words on ff.net and 126,049 by yWriter's count and only the first thirteen of 33 chapters is finished, er... 50,000 won't be nearly enough words to finish the story.

Bad news: My laptop keeps automatically turning off again. Heating issues, I'm sure. Apparently the guys who fixed it didn't do a good enough job. I'm going to try to get the parts together to build a new computer. My parents will pay for some of the parts and I'll pay for the rest.

Updated the Lair for the first time in years. Would update more, but FFV fandom has always been very small. I'd consider adding an oekaki board, but I'm a bit clueless about how to put them up, my girlfriend has computer issues of her own, and it'd probably just be me and [info]shiinabambi doodling at each other.

Been very busy with work, and the computer keeps killing its own power. My apologies to those expecting more fandom stuff from me.

ETA:
Inoccidere/Babylon 3 characters are now:
Akiyama Ryo/Rodion Toshiovich Zakharov (Digimon/Babylon 5): Security Chief
Stanley H. Tweedle (Lexx/Farscape): Current captain of Babylon 3 and Leviathan!Lexx
Tao (Mysterious Cities of Gold/Stargate SG-1): Maintenance Chief
Lenna Charlotte Tycoon (Final Fantasy V/Ogre Battle): Camp Makeshift psychiatric counselor
and it's now a toss-up between Giggerotta (Lexx/Farscape) and Timov (Babylon 5/Alien Nation). I may go on with Timov after getting Giggerotta killed. Giggerotta: here to eat you. Timov: not sure yet.

Update for the week: WORK.

Nanowrimo is coming up. Should I work on the original novel (Buck Rogers with girls) or buck up and attempt to finish SN?

I need a canon to cross Lenna (FFV) over to for Inoccidere, because I have this strange urge to play her. Any suggestions?

Also, a hilarious NWO spammer hit [info]elfquest. The thread was deleted, alas, but I saved it for posterity.

Other Inoccidere/B3 stuff: Most of these icons (except the badge and Vorlon)* took way too long :|. Now back to writing documentation.

* The explanation behind [info]sockpuppetofgod: It's a quote from Jeremiah. (How the hell am I supposed to know? I'm just God's sock puppet okay? He shoves his hand up my ass and words come out the other end.) Given Ryo assumes Mr. Smith and Ezekiel's roles in Salva Nos and is host to someone claiming to be a god in Inoccidere, I figured it would work well for a LJ username.

This will eventually be a nice clean copy-paste form, but right now I will be obnoxious and explain things. The italicized bits won't be in the end product, so please take them out when writing up your apps.

Also, here's a sample to give you an idea. It's incomplete because I have to watch my housemate's dogs and can't finish it tonight. I am never having dogs.
